Rich was the son of George Whisenhunt and Melissa M. Green. He came from a very large family and had lots of brothers and sisters: Sarah Ellar, Margarette C., Joseph A., Mary J., Grover Cleveland, Henry C., Georgia A. "Annie" Whisenhunt.
Rich married Martha Angeline Aylor aka "Mattie" under an old oak tree on his property in Pike county, Arkansas.
They remained there throughout their lives. They were the proud parents of 6 children: Dewey N. (1911), Dulean Mary (1913-2008), Era Vesta (1915-1916), Gerald Dean (1917-? ), Lou Eve (1919-1989), and Erma Lois Whisenhunt (1922-?).
I don't know how many grandchildren he had... But I'm sure it was a good number and that Richard was very proud of each and every one. One of those grandchildren has described her Grandfather as the kind of man that would walk several miles into town and back...just so he could give the kids some peppermint candies. That sounds like a very proud Grandpa to me.
Rich did fill out a WWI Draft card in September 1918. He had a wife and children and was probably exempted from service due to having those dependants. He was a farmer and lived a farmer's life.
