James "Eli" Baxter was the son of Isreal Baxter and Mary Ann Futch Baxter. He was born in Marianna, Florida. He married Mary S. Tidwell, July 24, 1854. They were the parents of William, Jacob, Pink, Eunita, Joanna, John Green, William J.C., Fulda and Harriet. Eli and Mary are at rest in Beulah Cemetery.
