- Mrs. Moose was a member of Hiddenite United Methodist Church and N.C. Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from Scotts High School and Lenoir Rhyne College and taught in Iredell and Alexander County Schools until her retirement. During that time, she was also a basketball coach. Her many students remember her lovingly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be missed very much. She was a sweetheart.
- In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Bailey, Elsie Whitson and Louise Scott Brown; brothers, John, Earl and Paul Meroney Halyburton; and husbands, R.C. Lackey and Solon Moose.
- Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lackey Bost Warren of Hiddenite, and Jane Lackey Stadler Myers and husband, John, of Greensboro; two sisters, Lucille Billings of Clemmons, and Katherine Demas of Florida; a brother, W. E. Halyburton of Shelby; six grandchildren, Norman Scott Bost, Joel Robert Bost, Virginia Caroline Elliott, Gordon Enock Stadler, Robert James Stadler and Guy Christian Stadler; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
- A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Hiddenite Cemetery by the Revs. Lynn Hawkins and Wade Wright.
- Memorials may be given to Hiddenite United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 146, Hiddenite, NC 28636; or Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
