Hickory, N.C. - James Oscar Jim Bolick, 96, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at Lutheran Home Hickory East.

Born September 20, 1912, in Hazelwood, N.C., he was the son of the late Julius P. Bolick and Claudia Spencer Bolick.

A veteran of the Merchant Marines during World War II, Mr. Bolick was a member of Millers Lutheran Church and had retired from Hickory Fry Furniture. He was an avid gardener and loved cooking which he did for many church functions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Allen Bolick; four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Allen Bolick and wife, Diann, of Candler, N.C., James F. Bolick, of Lumberton; a granddaughter, Amanda Bolick, of Conover, N.C.; three grandsons, James A. Bolick, of Candler, N.C., Craig Bolick, of Lumberton, Dallas Bolick, of Greenville, N.C.; three great-grandsons, Michael, Skylar and Nathan Bolick.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Millers Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Alle officiating. The body will lie-in-state from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers: James A. Bolick, Chad Hoyle, Tim Fox, Nathan Fox, and Chad Bolick.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
