Paul Kuemmel, spelled "Kimmel" in English, was born 26 Jan 1882 in Voigstedt, Province of Saxony, Germany, to Friedrich Ernst Kuemmel and Therese Helene (Rabenaldt) Kuemmel. Paul came to Texas in 1885 with his parents; his grandparents, Carl and Amalie (Schmidt) Rabenaldt; and his maternal uncle, Edmund Rabenaldt. They arrived in New York on 16 Nov. 1885 on the ship "California," with their stated destination being Schulenberg, TX. By 1886 the Kuemmel and Rabenaldt families were living in Wied in Lavaca Co., TX. By 1890 they had moved to Gruenau, a small farming community near Yorktown in DeWitt Co., TX.

On 16 Mar. 1899, Paul married Olga Ladewig, daughter of Johann Heinrich & Auguste (Kettner) Ladewig Gross. Paul & Olga Kuemmel had seven children--Ida, who married Hugo Piske; Alfred who married Maria Maureschat; Anna who married Adolph Carl Schroeder; Estella who married Alfred Simicek; Frieda who married Werner Diebel; Ella who married Otho Griffen; and Edwin who married Ernastina Gras. Around 1900 Paul and Olga were crowned "King and Queen of Maifest" at Gruenau Hall, by reason of Paul having won the shooting contest. Paul and Olga Kuemmel were members of the Nopal Lutheran Church.

Olga died 14 Apr. 1914, apparently of complications from delivering her last child. Paul died 3 years later, on 11 Aug. 1917. Both are buried in Sandy Gate Cemetery near Nopal, DeWitt Co., TX. Paul and Olga (Ladewig) Kuemmel were both members of the Fraternal Order the Sons of Hermann who helped conduct their funerals.
