Lois was the daughter of Mary E. Fowle and Jesse Daggett Bates and granddaughter of Ezekiel Bates Masonic Lodge Founder & builder of the first railroad station in Boston. She was born in what was once known as the old Kingsley Wilmarth house on North Mains St., Attleboro, MA. She married Henry A. Young at her parents home in Attleboro, MA in 1875. They had 2 sons, Henry B. (died in his 20's) and Charles W. Her husband predeceased her by 27 years. She spent virtually all of her long life in the Attleboros.
Lois was a "determined woman" so was quite adamant about living in the country during the summers so she could have her own garden. However, her husband worked in Providence, in a dry goods store, so they compromised with her living in a big home on Commonwealth Ave in Attleboro while he lived in an apartment in Providence during the work week. He would pick her up each Sunday and they would take a drive to Conimicut, RI.
When Lois reached 90, the newspaper honored her by publishing her history. At that time the paper said that she 'enjoys the best of health, amuses herself by playing favorite melodies on the piano and spends much time reading.' She formerly attended the Pilgrim church and was a member of the Pilgrim Alliance club, a group of veteran Pilgrim church goers.

She had 1 brother: William K.
