Hepler Services Held in Sidney

Funeral services for Melvin Hepler, 58, Brockton, were held at 2 p.m. May 19 at the Lonsdale Methodist Church in Sidney, Rev. Dwight Harshman officiating.

Vocal selections "Rock of Ages" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" were sung by Amy Quilling, accompanied by Dorothy Gall.
Pallbearers were Lloyd Sheehan, Jim Vaira, Paul Vaira, Eddy Vaira, Anton Carda and Kenneth Klasna and Archie Strand. Interment was in Sidney Cemetery with Fulkerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hepler was born Aug. 20, 1912, at Boiling Spring, Va., son of Adolphe and Nanie Hepler. He was raised in Covington, Va., and in 1944 moved to Washington. Melvin married Jean Hull April 7, 1945, and they returned to Virginia. They came to Richland County in April 1947 where they have lived and farmed south of Brockton. Melvin was killed May 15 in a tractor accident about one mile west of Fairview.

Surviving him are his widow, Jean, Brockton; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Susan) Stockert, White Settlement, Tex.; Kay Hepler, Missoula; three brothers, James, Covington, Va.; George, Covington, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Grover (Driscilla) Willson, Silverton, Ore.; Mrs. Toy (Isabelle) Lawrence, Roanoke, Va.; and Mrs. Ernest (Kate) Shiflett, Covington, Va., and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

"Melvin Hepler
SIDNEY -- Melvin Hepler, 58, of South Brockton, died in a tractor accident Saturday afternoon about a mile west of Fairview on Highway 201 .
He was born Aug. 20, 1912 at Boiling Spring, Va., a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hepler. He attended schools at Covington, Va., and moved to Washington state in 1944.
He married Jean Hull April 7, 1945 at Tacoma, Wash. They lived in Virginia before moving to Richland County in April 1947, and had farmed in this area since.
Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene Stockert of White Settlement, Tex., and Kay Hepler, Missoula; three brothers, James and George, both of Covington, Va., and Frank of Elkins, W. Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Grover Wilson of Silverton, Ore., Mrs. Toy Lawrence of Roanoke, Va., and Mrs. Ernest Shiflett of Covington, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lonsdale Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Harshman. Burial will be at Sidney Cemetery with Fulkerson Funeral Home in charge."
