Miriam was the tenth of twelve children, and the youngest daughter. In 1944 she graduated from Nescopeck High School in Nescopeck, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
She married Harry Welliver on August 31, 1947, and they raised four children: Harry William II, Cynthia Diane, Beth Aileen, and Lisa Jane. She was employed by Berwick Hospital, Berwick, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, between 1961 and 1992.
