Jesse Butler Kersey was the son of Eleazer & Mary Jane Butler [Reynolds] Kersey. In the 1880 Census, Jesse is working on a farm and nearby are the relatives of his future wife [her aunt & uncle Stephen & Eliza Bailey Stubbs, her grandparents: James E & Sarah Bailey, her uncle: Josiah Bailey]. Jesse married Sarah Elma Stubbs on 12 Oct 1880 in Lawrence, KS. Jesse and Sarah were both Friends but his occupation led them far from their Monthly Meeting home in Indiana, and any Monthly Meeting record keeping. Jesse made his living for years as a skilled itinerant bridge builder and builder of wood & zinc washing machines. They moved from bridge building site to the next site, having children in towns here and there. They finally settled down on a farm from his wife's family (Stubbs) in Mulvane, KS.
