Smoot Man Killed Near Lyman In 85 Ft. Plunge From Oil Derrick
The death of A. D. Hunsaker, 22, of Smoot, Delta drilling Co. Derrickman, who fell 85 feet to his death at 2:30 p.m. Friday December 21 at church buttes near Lyman, Wyo. while working on a wildcat well was ruled accidental by Gilbert Bills, Uninta County coroner.
A.D. rode an elevator to a platform on the derrick. When he attempted to step onto the platform, he slipped and plummeted to his death. Officials of the Delta Drilling Co. of Tyler, Texas said he suffered a broken neck and numerous other fractures.
He was born February 16, 1929 at Smoot Wyoming son of Wilford and Rachel Parsons Humsaker. He married Dena Erickson of Afton, Wyo. January 9, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Surviving are his widow and two sons Kim 3 and Greg 1 year old, his father and six brothers and sisters, Leron, Lynn, and Odell of Smoot. Erma Anderson Lyman; Ivy Simpson, Thayne and Velda Heiner, Bedford.
Funeral services were conducted in the Smoot Ward chapel at 1 p.m. Monday, December 24 under the direction of Bishop James L. Bruce. The prayer in the home was given by Pres. A. Dixon Burton of the Star Valley Stake Presidency;

Talk: George Wilson, the driller for whom A. D. worked. He told of the honesty dependability and integrity of A. D. and paid high tribute to him as a fellow workman.
Song: Don and Beth Chadwick: "Sunset".
Talk: Clarence Erickson who praised A.D and Dena for their accomplishments in this life and told of the advancement that is possible for them and their sons to make because of their faithfulness.
Talk: W.L. Anderson who gave the life history of A.D. and praised him as a husband, father, son and brother.
Song: Singing Mothers: "One Sweetly, Solemn Thought".
Pall Bearers were his three brothers, Leron, Lynn, Odell and three of his fellow workmen: Geo. Wilson, C.W. Gold and J.M. Miller.
The many beautiful floral offerings told the love of the community for this family.
Interment was in the Afton cemetery.
Mr Delbert Heiner dedicated the grave.
