Pioneer Villager, E. R. Barney, Dies in California
Ervin Robert Barney, pioneer resident of Oak Park, died in Los Angeles on Sunday, October 10, where he went to live five years ago. Mr. Barney was tax counsel for the Chicago Title and Trust company for 55 years until his retirement five years ago.
Born in Rutland, Vermont, in 1857, he came west as a youth with his father who became one of the early settlers of Maywood and one of those who planned that town. When Mr. Barney married Mary Crandall, whose father built the home at 122 South Kenilworth, they made their home in the village.
Robert C. Barney, only son of the deceased, who is a former corporation counsel for Oak Park, left on Monday noon for California to attend his father's burial which took place on Wednesday at Redlands. Besides his widow, there is also a daughter, Mrs. Michael Bedenick of Redlands, and three grandsons, Roger, Robert and Ross, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Barney.
Mr. Barney was a member of various Masonic bodies.
