RAINES, Dorothy Ann, 86, of Troutville, died Thursday, November 14, 2002. She was the widow of Sherman Luther Raines whom she married March 12, 1939, in Springfield, Mo. Formerly of Giles County, she was a daughter of the late George Sabin Bridgwood and Elsie Marcell Sisler VanFleet Bridgwood, and predeceased by a son-in-law, William C. Harris and brother, Floyd Bridgwood. Dorothy held secretarial positions in Lincoln, Neb., Clay Center, Neb., Springfield, Mo., Fairmont, W.Va. and Harrisonburg, VA. Surviving are three children, Patsy R. Harris, Eugene Luther Raines and Beverly R. Beckner; grandchildren, Douglas Beckner, Jr. and wife, Diann, Eugene Beckner and wife, Maria, Derrick Raines and wife, Gaye, Inga B. Janketic and husband, Joey, Johanna Beckner; great-grandsons, twins, Daniel and Brandon Byron and Aaron Raines. Also surviving are close friends, Carl and Margaret Snyder, Dennis and Alice Crowder, Jim Huffard and Gene and Yvonne Moran. Special thanks are extended to her caregiver, Virginia St. Clair, also Mackey Anderson of Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Flowers are appreciated but donations may be made to either the American Diabetes Association or your local SPCA. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002, from Oakey's North Chapel. The Reverend Claude Dove will officiate. Private interment to follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. Saturday until service time at Oakey's North Chapel (362-1237)
