George's age on his gravestone and on the census do not match, nor does it match the age given in the 1880 biography.

in 1850, his age is given as 62 b ca 1788
in 1860, his age is given as 82 (this is clearly off)
in 1870, his age is given as 82 b ca 1788
in 1880, his age is given as 94 b ca 1786

History of Delaware County 1880 p 599

One of the earliest and best examples of a pioneer and backwoodsman is Mr. George Fix, who settled in Harlem Township over sixty years ago, on a farm of 100 acres, located near the southeast corner of the township. He raised a large family of sons and daughters, all of whom live unmarried with the old people on the old homestead, and in their habits and manner of life are, for all practical purposes, hermits. The old gentleman, at the age of eighty-five, is stout and active. By nature a stalwart, with a large and muscular frame in his younger days, he was capable of great physical endurance. He is an honest, inoffensive man. His sons and daughters, in the character of their persons and habits, resemble their father in his eccentricities.
