Claude Lee Jackson of Ringgold died Saturday, Sept. 30, at his residence. He was 83. He was a native of Chilton, Ala., and had lived most of his life in the metropolitan area. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1940-41 and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific and in the battle of Iwo Jima during World War II. He was an ordained minister who served in several churches in the area as well as local radio and television broadcasts. In recent years, he attended Lakeview Wesleyan Church. In 1987, he retired from Mueller Co. after 18 years of service. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lacy Danise Jackson; two daughters, Claudette McCann and Diane Hudgens; two sisters, Ermie Martin and Edith Watson; one brother, Joel Jackson. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Helen Jackson; seven children, Anthony Jackson of Cleveland, Tenn., Sharlene Newvine of Fort Oglethorpe, Randy Jackson of LaFayette, Gail Gray of Fort Oglethorpe, Judy Harbort, Jerry Jackson, both of Ringgold, Timothy Jackson of Panama City, Fla.; sister, Ethel Edgar of Haleyville, Ala.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services: Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the South Crest Chapel with Revs. Ronald Doolittle, Kenneth Oliver and Myron Banther officiating. Burial: Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park [Rossville, Walker Co., GA]. Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
