John C. Baggott, nephew and adopted son of Prof. M.V. Baggott of Cobden, died 20 Oct 1898, at Presidio near San Frsancisco, and was buried in Cobden Cemetery. He was in Co. E, 1st Washington Volunteer Infantry and was the first soldier of the Spanish-American War to be buried in Union County.
