A pall of gloom covered Lucedale Sunday when news of the death of William Harrison Speer, reached here.
Mr. Speer had been in the veteran's Hospital at Biloxi for a week when the end came, but had suffered from Heart trouble for the past two years.
Mr. Speer, was a native of Texas, having been born at William Penn, Texas, February 6, 1888. April 18, 1918 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving there for the duration of the war. He was honorably discharged from service March 31, 1919 at Miami, Florida. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity.
June 18, 1927, he was married to Leah DePriest, and soon thereafter, the couple moved to Lucedale, where they operated the Lucedale Laundry, and Mr. Speer made a host of friends in this section.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock, at the Lucedale Baptist church, with Rev. G.S. Jenkins, pastor of the Lucedale Baptist Church in charge of the services, assisted by Rev. R.A. Allums, pastor of the Lucedale Methodist church. Interment was in Magnolia cemetery, with McKay's Morticians directing.
Pallbearers were E.B. Ward, G.S. Dickin, J.W. Passon, R.M. McKay, Dalton Parker, and Marion Dorsett.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Gloria Jean, age 12, and Peggy Elaine, age 8, his parents, of Atlanta, Ga., 1 sister, 3 brothers and other relatives who mourn his passing.

Relatives from away attending the funeral were Mrs. A.C. Solomon, of Jackson, Mrs. S. Sutherlin, Dorothy, Betty and Billy Sutherlin and Miss Mildred Flurry, all of Wiggins.
