Roy William Gandy

Roy William Gandy, age 94, of Winnfield, LA, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home.

Mr. Gandy was retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad and was a member of the South Winnfield Baptist Church of Winnfield, LA. He, along with his wife, owned and operated the Lone Star Café in Winnfield for many years.

Mr. Gandy is the son of the late Erie Gandy and the late Mattie Lou Moreland Gandy. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Vertis Gandy, and two brothers, W. T. Gandy and J. B. Gandy.

He is survived by his son, Tommy Joe Gandy and his wife Teresa of Nashville, TN; two daughters, Mary Virginia Gandy Royston and her husband Kenneth of Houma, LA and Joyce Gandy Davis of New Orleans, LA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Teresa Tallon, Jeffrey Gandy, Paula Guillot, and Dara Gandy; and four great grandchildren, Courtney, Tarah, Shawn, and Calvin. Survivors also include two sisters, Beth Anderson of Minden, LA and Maude Stovall of Athens, LA.

Funeral services for Mr. Gandy will be held 11:00 AM, Monday in the South Winnfield Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Miller and Reverend Kenneth Tarver officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, at the Salem Cemetery near Athens, Louisiana under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
