OBITUARY:
P. D. Christian Dies Today After a Long IllnessDeath today claimed P. D. Christian, merchant and long time resident of Gonzales, following a lingering illness. The end came at one o'clock this morning at his home in the eastern part of the city. Funeral services will be held at the home at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with interment afterward in the Denton Creek Cemetery. Robertson and Seydler have charge of arrangements.Surviving are his wife and one step son, Donald Clark Greer, one sister, Mrs. A. W. Wright of Turnersville, Texas and one brother, R. L. Christian of Gonzales, besides a number of nieces and nephews.Mr. Christian was 56 years, 5 months, and 17 days of age at the time of his death. He was born August 11, 1878, in the Denton Creek Community and has resided in Gonzales county most of his life. He spent a number of years in San Antonio and El Paso.During the time he was in San Antonio he was a detective and a member of the city police force, and during the administration of Mayor Gus Jones of San Antonio held the rank of police captain. He was also in the immigration service, stationed at El Paso for some time.For the past nine years, Mr. Christian has been in the grocery business in Gonzales.Mr. Christian united with the First Baptist Church in Gonzales several years ago and was a valued member of that church. In the community and business life of Gonzales, Mr. Christian was a highly respected citizen, being well and favorably known over all of Gonzales county.His legion of friends will join in extending heartfelt sympathy to the family and loved ones in their hour of bereavement.
