W. S. Hathaway Dies Monday In Washington

W. S. Hathaway, for many years a prominent citizen of Mexico, died at 6 o'clock Monday evening at the home of his son-in-law, George Ross, in Washington, D.C. He had been ill for several months, suffering from the after effects of influenza. The body will be brought to Mexico Thursday at noon, and a short service will be conducted at the grave in Elmwood cemetery by Dr. A. A. Wallace.

Until a few years ago, when he retired from the business world, Hathaway was at the head of the Hathaway Seed and Produce Company on West Promenade street. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, and lived there until 1875 when he moved to the Currey farm, six miles south of Mexico. He engaged in farming for several years before moving to Mexico and establishing the seed company.

His wife, who was formerly Miss Addie Case of Toledo, died several years ago. He leaves a son, Fred S. Hathaway, and a daughter, Mrs. George Ross, of Washington, D.C. Both were with him at the time of his death.

Mr. Hathaway was a leading member of the Republican party in this state. Several times he ran for Congress from this district and was prominent in all party activities. He was also a leading member of the Presbyterian church.

As a leader in all civic movements, he also was very prominent here. He was among the most progressive and successful businessmen in this section of the state.

The Ledger joins in extending sympathy to the family.
