BLAKESBURG -- Edgar L. Shields, 72, longtime farmer in this area, died Monday night at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
He was born March 12, 1895, the son of John and Almena Lathrop Shields, near Blakesburg. he was preceded in death by his first wife Josie DeLong Shields in 1936. He later married Rachael Smith in 1939.
Surviving are his wife: two brothers, Orville of Fairfield and Wilbur of Ottumwa; one sister, Blanche Bennett of Blakesburg; and eight stepchildren, Dean DeLong of Nebraska, Donald DeLong of California, Forrest Smith of Indiana, Carl Smith of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Clifford Warner of Blakesburg, Mrs. Ted Rose of Minot, N.D. Mrs. Bill DeFord of Warsaw, Ind., and Mrs. Edwin Page of Scottsdale, Ariz..
