14 Nov 1950: A. Lloyd Horst, an outstanding banker and churchman of Heidelberg Township, and widely known in the county at large, died suddenly at 5:08 o'clock on Monday afternoon at the Lancaster General Hospital. Although he was afflicted with a heart condition for the past five years, the malady at no time confined him to bed nor incapacitated him entirely after he retired some years ago as a farmer. He was about his home at Main and Carpenter Streets, Schaefferstown, as usual on Monday, and was preparing to come to Lebanon on a business errand when he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack. He was hurried to the Lancaster General Hospital, but expired a few minutes after he was admitted. He was 54 years of age. His sudden death was rendered additionally distressing to relatives because his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary A. Dierwechter. Died in the Horst home last Friday and the funeral was held today. Mr. Horst was a son of the late Mrs. Emma (Oberholtzer) Horst, now of Lebanon, and the late Uriah B. Horst. Although he was influential in Republican political circles in his district, served some years ago on the township board of school directors and was first vice president for some years of the Schaefferstown First National Bank, he was particularly prominent in church affairs. He was affiliated for many years with the Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church of Schaefferstown, served on the executive committee, was a church trustee and was also an officer of the church board. He was a member of the Heidelberg Lions Club, Schaefferstown Heidelberg Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, and for a number of years was a member of the Agricultural Committee of the Lebanon County Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Mrs. Ella L. Dierwechter Horst and four children: Ruth, wife of the Rev. Nolan Balman, missionaries to South Africa: Mary Louise, wife of Leon Keller, Lebanon RD 3 and Earl and Arthur Horst, both of Myerstown RD 2. Nine grandchildren and two brothers also survive, Miles Horst. Pennsylvania State Secretary of Agriculture, Lebanon; and Paul Horst, Avon. [Lebanon Daily News]
