2nd Lieutenant Howard Leo Blessington (U.S. Army Air Corps) was killed during World War II when the plane of which he was a crew member was shot down in the South Pacific. He was buried with military honors in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. After the war, his parents and family elected to have him disinterred and reinterred in Alexandria National Cemetery.
