Jason was the son of William Walter and Rose Esther Stice Pruett. He was one of nine children including: Lucy Dell, Callie Louis, Chester Victor, Ruth Marleigh, Leroy Labrum, Avis Marlena, Albert Raymond, and Maxine.

He was married to Verna Crete Wheeler. They had a family of four children: Shirley (Mrs. Ronald Trad), William Edward, Wayne and Rosella (Mrs. John Franklin LightfootIII/Mrs. Donald Charles Forsythe.
