Geneva Marie Cates, 81, of Campbell, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell. Born Oct. 29, 1919, in Pollard, Ark., daughter of the late Thomas William and Sylvia Alice Adami Maples, she was a homemaker, a member of the Campbell General Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge No. 845 in Campbell.

On June 6, 1940, in Kennett, she married Allen Arnold, Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1964. She later married Joseph Lafayette Cates on Jan. 4, 1969, in Campbell. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1997.

Survivors include two nephews, Jerry Maples, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and William Maples, of Wappapello, Mo.; one niece, Mary Maples, of Poplar Bluff; five step-daughters, Francis Bankston, of San Antonio, Texas, Evelyn Allen and Myrna Noble, both of Malden, Mo., Agnes Allen, of Clarkton, Mo. and Kathryn Nichols, of Qulin, Mo.; two step-sons, Russell Cates, of House Springs, Mo. and Lewis Cates, of Campbell and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Carlos Allen Arnold; two brothers, Melvin Riley and Cletis Eugene Maples; one sister, Alberta Lee and one step-daughter, Juey Davidson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Beals officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Clarkton.
