Joseph Vance Crain, 95 years old, at 1104 Mulberry Street, Van Buren, Arkansas, died Tuesday morning, May 16, 1967 at 7:30 a.m. in a local hospital. He was born May 1, 1872 in Marion, North Carolina, McDowell county. He grew up in Tusculum, Tennessee, and attended college there. He joined the Baptist church when he was 16 years old and attended several different churches in Van Buren, Arkansas after coming here 21 years ago. He was a retired school teacher and farmer. He also wrote short stories and poetry, some of which had been published.

Survivors were his wife, Mary Wiggard; three sons, Troy of Fort Smith, Floyd of Ozark, Arkansas and Herman of Washington State a stepson, John of Muldrow, Oklahoma, five daughters, Versie, of San Leandro, California, Mary of San Jose, California, Jo Ella of Sacramento, California, Vivian of Van Buren and Alalue of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; two step-daughters Cordie of Illinois and Elsie of Van Buren; 44 grandchildraen, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church with N. V. Hunt, pastor of the Bible Mission church in Fort Smith, officiating. Burial was in Gill cemetery directed by Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville, Arkansas.

Grandsons served as casket bearers, Rodden, Ronald, Bernard, Reldon, J.C. and Herman.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were his daughters, a granddaughters and their husbands; and a grandson and his wife.
