An Old Citizen Dies at the Age of Eighty Years
Mr. Peter Gibbs, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Howard County, died at his home near Pleasant Green Church, Saturday evening, age 79 years, 11 months and 20 days. Mr. Gibbs has been in feeble health for over a year, and the death of his wife, which occurred only a week or ten days ago, so broke the old man's spirit that life was a burden to him, and death kindly came to his relief to send his earthly sorrow, and waft his soul to a better world to live on with and love the spirit of the life companion. Death always has its sorrows, though is seldom with out a comforting thought. To their sorrowing child, now men and women the Democrat Banner extends sympathy and admonishes them to take comfort from the fact that the father and mother are again united. The burial took place at Pleasant Green Cemetery, Monday March 9. [March 1897]
