Norma Christine Woodward

Services for Mrs. Norma Christine Woodward, 68, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, at First Baptist Church of Hornbeck. Rev. Ted Cabra, former principal of Hornbeck School officiated. Burial followed in Prewitt Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home.


Mrs. Woodward died at Schumpert Medical Center, October 10, after a brief illness. Mrs. Woodward was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma, April 1, 1924. She graduated from Sulphur Oklahoma High School in 1942, and attended Cameron J. College in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II, where she served as Air Traffic Controller for two years. Mrs. Woodward received her B.A. in education from UL-Lafayette in 1964. She moved to Hornbeck in June 1965, where she taught first and second grades, at East Leesville Elementary, and kindergarten, second grade, and first grade, with one year in the Reading Lab at Hornbeck Elementary, until her retirement in 1990.

Mrs. Woodward is survived by her husband Bill Woodward of Hornbeck; five children, Sandy Ammons of Shreveport, Janet Lyons of New Iberia, Randy Woodward of San Augustine, Gary Woodward of Many, and Rhonda Terracciano of Monroe; ten grandchildren; one brother, Don Hood of Rowlett; and one sister, Fern Spencer of Penns Grove; a host of nieces, nephews, sons-in-law, and daughters-in-law.

Friends and former co-workers were pallbearers.
