Mr. Guy Franklin Shroyer, Jr., a Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather, age 86 of Crockett, formerly of Houston, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Houston. Mr. Shroyer was born October 19, 1921 in Houston County, Texas and had been living in Houston and Crockett since 1979.Mr. Shroyer was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II in North Africa and Burma and he met his wife of 62 years in Fort Smith Arkansas while stationed at Fort Chaffee. Mr. Shroyer received his BS in Foreign Relations from Georgetown University in Washington DC and received his MBA from Tulsa University. Mr. Shroyer began working for Warren Petroleum as an auditor in Tulsa which later became part of Gulf Oil Corporation where he worked for 39 years and retired as Vice President, Controller for Gulf Oil. Mr. Shroyer retired to raising cattle and gardening at his homeplace in Crockett. Mr. Shroyer was Baptized in the First Presbyterian Church in Crockett. Mr. Shroyer loved God and his family.
Survivors include his sons Guy Shroyer III and wife Cecilia, of Washington D. C., Paul Shroyer and wife Lisa, of Cypress; grandchildren Tucker and Shelby Shroyer of Cypress; sister Inez Netherland; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his wife Eddell Nelson Shroyer; parents Guy and Martha Shroyer; brothers Dale, Nathan, Jacob Wood, John and Cline Shroyer; and sisters Ruth Shroyer, Florence Shroyer and Mary Alice Adair.
Funeral Services for Mr. Guy Franklin Shroyer, Jrwere held Friday, February 22, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Crockett, Texas with the Rev. Jim Tom Ainsworth and the Rev. Tom Spath officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.
