Frances L. Shacklett, 93, of Gorin died Monday morning, March 28, 2005, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born the daughter of Cecil C.. and Elsie Suter Cain on November 26, 1911 in Watonga, Oklahoma (Blane County). At the age of six, she was taken into the home of her Great Aunt and Uncle, Sally and Clabourn Tripplet, to live and was cared for and loved dearly.
Frances graduated from Gorin High School in May of 1930. She married Ralph B. Shacklett on July 26, 1930. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1982.
To this union, one daughter, Mary Helen, was born. She passed away January 2, 1994, after a long battle with cancer.
She accepted the Lord Jesus when she was 11 years old. She became a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Chruch at Gorin, to which she was faithful as long as she was able. She taught a Sunday School Class for many years and enjoyed working with young people, especially the Girl's Auxiliary and with both foreign and home missions. Frances was always helping others and doing things for the betterment of the community.
Frances always enjoyed her family, her church work, and especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her great great grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, working with flowers and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter; great aunt and uncle; step mother, Ida; three brothers: Leland, Leonard, and Harvey Kenneth Cain; one step sister, Lorraine McDaniel; a step brother, Kenneth Hutchinson; and two brothers-in-law: Kendell and Kenneth James Shackett.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Bill Ebling; grandson, Larry George Ebling and his wife Vicki of Reeds Spring, MO; twin granddaughters, Laura Ann Shaw and husband Leon of Gorin and Lori Jan Howell and husband Gary of Gorin; great grandchildren: Sally Marie Shannon of Baring, Scott Mikel Ebling and Fiance Denise and mother Janie Ebling, Julie Frances Shaw and Jamie Leann Shaw, all of Gorin; great great grandchildren Benjamin Paul Shannon and Claire Marie Shannon of Baring; sisters in law: Mrs Helen Cain of Galesburg, IL, and Madeline Shacklett of Ottumwa, IA; many cousins, nieces, nephews, her church family and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Gorin Baptist Church with Brother Lee Oliver officiating. Special music was provided by Marsha Davis and Terry Sommers. Ronnie Boyer, Alvin Howard, Rodney Day, Mark Glasscock, Allen Fitzgerald, and Dean Davis served as pallbearers. Kerry Parks, Larry Tague and Allen Peterson served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery.
