Son of James Banks and Lydia Short, according to his death certificate.

Creed Taylor Banks, a well-known Fort Wayne citizen died at 8:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 219 West Washington street, at the advanced age of eighty years, two months and seven days. Mr. Banks' death was due to stomach trouble, and it came after an illness of nearly one year. For the past three or four weeks Mr. Banks has been confined to his bed and friends recognized that the dread end was near.

Mr. Banks was born in Virginia, October 13, 1820, and at the age of ten years removed with his parents to Darke county, Ohio. For a short time in early manhood he followed school teaching, but in 1845 he took up the study of medicine at Starling College of Medicine at Columbus, Ohio. Graduating in 1849, Dr. Banks began the practice of his profession at Lynn, Randolph county, Ind., and was the second settler in that town. Later he removed to Deerfield, and in 1859 came to Allen county, locating in Wayne township on a farm which he purchased just south of this city.

In 1860, Dr. Banks removed to South Whitley, and five years later to Forest, in the same county. He continued the practice of medicine until the fall of 1869, when he removed to Liberty Mills, Wabash county and until 1886 was engaged in milling, merchandising and the sale of livestock. At that time he returned to Fort Wayne, which has since been his home.

Mr. Banks was married in Ohio, August 23, 1846, to Elizabeth A Coombs, who, with several children, survives him. they are William T. Banks, Charles R. Banks, Virginia and Elmer E. Banks, the latter being a letter carrier in this city. Dr. Banks was a member of the Masonic order, and very highly esteemed by all who knew him. The remains will be shipped to South Whitley tomorrow, and the interment will occur at that place.
