Jimmie was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Gainesville to Marie and James Scruggs. She moved to Florida in 2004 to be close to her daughter, Edwina. She was a member of the Gainesville Circus in her childhood years and is honored in the Gainesville Circus museum. During World War II, she worked in a hand grenade factory. From there she set up shop as a beautician in Haltom City, where she retired many years later.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert Leon Porter.
Survivors: Children, Edwina Kaminsky of Cooper City, Fla., Laura Conklin, Larry Porter, Lorraine Skalos, Roxanne Scott, Rose Jackson; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
