Denton Georghegan Sellman was born in Brown County, Ohio. He married Ritta Ann Marshall Feb 6, 1845 in Brown County. She was the daughter of John & Alta "Glaze" Marshall and granddaughter of Nathaniel & Hannah "Kerr" Glaze.

After their marriage, they lived on a farm three miles southwest of Winchester, Ohio. Ritta inherited the farm from her maternal grandparents, Nathaniel & Ritta Ann "Thompson" Glaze. (Ritta Ann Thompson was her mother Alta's stepmother who raised her.)

Denton & Ritta had five children:
1. Nathaniel Thomas Sellman - b. 06 Jun 1846
2. John Humphries Sellman - b. 11 Apr 1848
3. Mary Elln Sellman - b. 02 Oct 1849
4. Wilson Benton Sellman - b. 25 Sep 1856
5. Horace Reynolds Sellman - b. 24 Mar 1862

On September 3, 1864, he enlisted in Company H, 173rd Ohio Infantry. This regiment was sent to Nashville, Tennessee, and Denton G Sellman died there while in the service, and was buried in the National Cemetery, six miles northeast of Nashville.
