Melvin Irvin Spencer, 79, of Grampian, passed away Dec. 1 at his residence, after a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 23, 1929 in Grampian, he was the son of Howard I. and Roxie (Orcutt) Spencer. Mr. Spencer was a truck driver, having first worked for Brown Brothers Trucking of Clearfield and then worked for and retired from, the Hepburnia Coal Co. in Grampian.
He was a Marine Corp veteran of the Korean Conflict, was a life member of the Grampian-Penn-Bloom VFD, was a member of the Curwensville VFW, the Clearfield Lodge #540 B.P.O.E., and the Eagles Ridge Golf Club. He was a former member of the Curwensville American Legion and the L.O.O.M.
On Nov. 24, 1956 in Grampian, he wed the former Patricia Danvir who survives along with two children. Christine Johnson and husband Jeffrey of Lanse and Michael Spencer of Grampian. Also surviving are four grandchildren Rachel, Erin, and Katie Johnson and Alexi-Jo Hanner and a sister Maude London of Grampian as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Veryl Conrad, a brother Howard Spencer Jr., and an infant brother Emory.
Services for Mr. Spencer will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Dec. 6 at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend Father Mark S. Swoger officiating. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure's Cemetery of Grampian.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Dec. 5 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Clearfield Am. Legion and VFW Joint Honor Guard.
The family suggests contributions be made to either the Clearfield Foundation for Health – Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
