Esther L. Sourk, 82, a 48 year resident of Chelan, passed peacefully away into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. She joined her beloved husband, Wayne to continue their journey together. Daughter, Jo Ellen was at Esther's side.
Esther was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Goff, Kan., the daughter of Sam and Goldie (Thurman) Whaley. After graduating from high school in Goff, she continued making her home there.
On Aug. 1, 1958, she was married to Wayne Sourk in Holton, Kan.
In 1960, they moved to Chelan where she and her husband purchased and operated an apple orchard for many years. For about 10 years she was employed with Chelan Safeway.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, in February of 2008.
Esther was a member of Chelan Eagles Auxiliary; Chelan Rustlers and the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. She was the heroine of dozens of cats, dogs and horses.
She had been active in Chelan Lanes Bowling League and for many years had been a volunteer at Regency Manor Care Center.
Survivors include two daughters: Lee Ann Martin; of Sebring, Fla.; Jo Ellen Moore, of Chelan; two sisters: Viola Ruse, of Entiat; Darlene Holliday, of Omak; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A tribute service will take place Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. at Fraternal Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Wenatchee Valley Humane Society, ASPCA, or Hooved Animals. Services have been entrusted to Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
