Mrs. Harriet Carter, wife of the late Ralph R. Carter, died at her residence, 77 Broadway, on Tuesday evening, January 30th , at 8:55 o'clock, after an illness of three years. Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Leisenring Douglas. She was born in Nesquehoning, Pa. on February 12th, 1847. Her parents moved to Mauch Chunk in her early childhood, where she has resided throughout her life. She was married on January 14, 1869, to Ralph Robert Carter, who preceded her in death on Mary 2, 1911. Early in life she united with the First Presbyterian Church, in which she was a devoted member for nearly sixty years. Mrs. Carter was a woman of earnest Christian character, of a retiring disposition, most generous in her benevolence, and devoted to high ideals in all her relationships. She was the last surviving member of one of Mauch Chunk's oldest and most honored families and will be missed by a large circle of friends. She is survived by three sons: Dr. Andrew Douglas Carter of Philadelphia, Ralph R. Carter Jr. of Audenried, Pa. and Edwin V. Carter of town. The funeral services will be held from her late residence on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The interment will be private in the Leisenring Cemetery.
