Blast Victim's Funeral Today

Funeral for Herbert Hoover MAYFIELD, 20, of Abilene, who was killed Monday night near Merkel in an oil well explosion, will be conducted by O. B. PROCTOR, minister, today at 2 p.m. at the North Park Church of Christ.

Three other crewmen were injured, none seriously, when MAYFIELD was believed to have struck a match to gauge water he was transferring from a converted Army gasoline truck to a skid tank near a rig at the Bay and Hilburn No. 2 Matthews well. witnesses believed the flame ignited gas fumes which had collected inside the tank.

MAYFIELD was employed by the Abilene trucking firm of A. R. Elam. He was a graduate of Abilene schools and had served a year with the Army.

Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. James MAYFIELD, Route 4, Abilene; three brothers, Hubert MAYFIELD, 2256 Anson Ave.; J. C. MAYFIELD, Dallas; Dan MAYFIELD, Abilene; four sisters, Mrs. Marvin SCREWS, Abilene; Alice MAYFIELD, New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Burma THOMAS, Abilene, and Vivian MAYFIELD, Abilene.

Burial will be in a local cemetery under direction of Laughter-North Funeral Home.
