Funeral for Mrs. W. D. Mayfield, 76, widow of a former city commissioner, was to be held at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Mayfield died at 8:20 p.m. Friday after suffering a heart attack at her home on Hickory Street. Earlier in the evening she had walked to a grocery store.
Services in the Kiker-Warren Funeral Home Chapel were to be conducted by the Rev. H. Leland Murphy, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
Born in Denison March 9, 1878, she was married in Denison May 28, 1899.
The couple moved to Abilene from Lubbock in July, 1919. For the past 18 years, Mrs. Mayfield had lived at the Hickory Street address. Mr. Mayfield died in 1951.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jess L. Green of Brownwood and Mrs. L. L. Blackburn of Vernon; two sons, J. W. Mayfield and P. M. Mayfield, both of Abilene; one sister, Mrs. J. E. Garrison of Lubbock; three brothers, W. I. Sims of Grady, N. M., Edward Sims of Dallas, and Walton Sims of Lubbock.
