Orland G. Eddins 79, died May 4, 1985 at the Dixie Medical Center in St. George, Utah after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held May 8, in the Afton Second-Third Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Paul Stauffer officiating. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery under the direction of the Schwab Mortuary.
Orland was born March 30, 1906, to Albert and Clara Gilby Eddins in Thayne, Wyo. on the ranch his father homesteaded and where he spent the early part of his life.
He married Ada Sessions March 17, 1930, at Paris Idaho. For several years he was associated in cattle buying with Sid Bagley, They moved to Idaho Falls in 1940, and he began buying milk cows for the Bonneville Co-op Creamery Co.
Orland has been a member of the Elks Lodge in Idaho Falls and Jackson for the past 40 years. In 1946 he was one of the organizers of the Bonneville County Mounted Sheriff's Posse of which he was president in 1947. He purchased property in Idaho Falls and built a service station and truck terminal.
In 1951 he returned to Star Valley and operated the Valleon Hotel for four years. Orland was on of the first organizers and a charter member of the All American Cutter Racing Association. He also spent two winters in Florida, working with racing colts at the Phipps Stables.
Orland loved to fish, hunt and ride a good horse. He spent many hours with his sons, friends and teaching his grandchildren to love and enjoy nature and the outdoors.
In his retired years, he managed his commercial property in Idaho Falls and has spent the past 14 winters in Arizona, Oregon and St. George Utah.
He is survived by his wife Ada of Afton; two sons Ned of Logan Utah and Bert of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs James (Vera) Robinson of Milton, Wash., Mrs Lee (Arvilla) Hawkins of Logan, Utah, Mrs Cliff (Clara) Haderlie and one brother LaVell Eddins of Afton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters,
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 8 for Orland G. Eddins, 79, Afton, who died Saturday, May 4 in St,George, Utah.Funeral services were conducted under the direction of the Afton Second LDS Ward Bishopric at 1 p.m.
