"John was the son of Hezekiah Brink Alderman and Lucinda Vincent. He and his wife had 10 children, but just 3 were living by 1900. Lucy J, Chester S were with the parents in 1900, the third was probably Ella."

Born in Des Moines Iowa, Private Alderman enlisted at the age of 19 on August 1, 1861 in "M" company of the 2nd Iowa Light Artillery, and re-enlisted on March 28, 1864. He mustered out at Davenport, IA on August 7, 1865.

After the war, he was a farmer in the 1880s in Calamus, Valley, Nebraska.He met and married Mary Alderman, who is also buried in this cemetery with him.
