Rev Elijah Newton Morris is my gr-gr grandfather.

He was the son of Thomas Bannister Morris & Sarah (Serena). He married Lucindy Frances Elliott and together they had at least 11 known children:
- Mary Frances
- William Thomas (my great grandfather)
- Margaret Sally (Sarah Ann)
- Mary Elizabeth (Betty)
- John Wiley
- James Elijah (Lige)
- Mary Alice
- Asa A
- Lydia E
- Bird Polk

Newton Elijah owned land in southern Van Zandt County the Big Rock Area, also known as the China Grove Community, also known as the Denman area. On FM Road 1256 he donated land for the Morris Family Cemetery which is used not only for the Morris family but by the entire community. According to the Texas Historical Commission, he purchased the land in 1886. Elijah's grave states that he was a CSA CO H 10 TX CAV.
