Clarence A Butler age 74 of Rural Route 2, French Lick, died at 10:26, at the Orange County Hospital,in Paoli. He had been ill three years, and seriously ill for three weeks.
He was born September 29, 1911, in Martin County, to the late Alfred G. and Anna J (Gammon) Butler. He married Lellia C. Vice. August 4, 1968, and she survives.
He was retired from the French Lick Sheraton Resort Hotel Golf course and was a member of the Sulphur Creek Church, in French Lick . He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World Was II.
Surviving with the wife are two step-sons, James Hackworth, of Connersville, and John Hackworth of French Lick;two step daughters,Mrs. Doyle (Betty)Ashby, of French Lick, and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Rutherford of Richmond; two brothers Roscoe Butler and Albert Butler both of Shoals; one sister, Mrs Luther Probasco, of Shoals. One step-daughter and several brothers and sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan 24, at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home , in Shoals, with the Rev. Lloyd Butler officiating. Music was provided by organist Clara Smith.
Burial was made in Butler Cemetery, with the Shoals American Legion, Post No 61, conducting Military Rites. Participating were Fredrick Sims, Ed Jones, Bill Summers, Paul Brassine and Morris Allbright; Dale Bledsoe and Gene Boyd Colors; George Chestnut and Ed Pendley, Color guard; Robert Qualkenbush, Sgt.-at-arms;Carl Pinnick, Folding the Flag; Rodney Voegerl, James Norman and Wilson Collins'S.A.L.
Pallbearers were Dale Brown, Gene Cox, Arthur Bauer, William Jones, Roger Sherfick and James Norman.
