She was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Anchor, Ill., to Carl and Delia Hodges Kalmbrum. She married Rudolph A. Smith on June 18, 1972, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons.
Surviving are one son, Burton (and Faye) Liesman; one daughter, Sandra (and Phillip) Herbst; two stepdaughters, Marilyn (and Jack) Pribble and Beverly (and Lonnie) Owens; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Bertha worked at Kresge's in Sheridan Village in Peoria, retiring in 1976.
She loved to travel with her husband, Rudy and do crossword puzzles. She loved butterflies and gardening. She loved to fish and just spending time outdoors.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria, with the Rev. Ken Yocum officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Cremation will be accorded after services, with burial of ashes in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria at a later date.
