Foster, Eli
Eli Foster, one of the early settlers of Whitley county, died Thursday evening at his home in Thorncreek township three miles northwest of this city at a ripe old age, death resulting from liver and dropsical troubles. The deceased had been in declining health for a long time but was only confined to the sick room for a few weeks. Mr. Foster, in his latter years, was bothered with liver trouble, which brought on diabetes. In his youth he was a man of stalwart form and great physical endurance.
Eli Foster was born in Perry county, Ohio December 28th, 1819 and died in Whitley county, Indiana July 20, 1905 at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 22 days. He received a common school education and was reared by his parents on a farm, which occupation he continued through life. In 1846 he was married to Miss Rebecca Ortman. To this union five children were born, the only surviving one being H. L. Foster, with whom the deceased lived at the time of his death. The life partner of the deceased preceded him to the beyond in the year 1885. He was later married to Mrs. Sarah Green, who has been dead for ten years.
Mr. Foster leaves besides the one son, six grand-children and many friends to mourn his death. The funeral occurs Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran church, the funeral cortege leaving the home at 1 o'clock. Interment in the Masonic cemetery.
