"History of Menard & Mason Counties", 1879: William McCarty, farmer and breeder of blooded Holstein and Jersey cattle and Yorkshire swine; P. O. Mason City; was born in Menard Co., Ill. Dec. 11, 1845; is the eldest son of Thomas McCarty, of Mason City. He married Sarah J. Ely, daughter of George W. Ely, of Salt Creek Township, Dec. 16, 1866; they have four children, viz., William E., born Sept. 11, 1867; George T., March 14, 1870; Malinda J., Sept. 25, 1873, and Francis Otis, Feb.19, 1878. He is working one of his father's farms in Salt Creek Township, of 240 acres, and has a pleasant home.

William McCarty Funeral Yesterday
Funeral services for William McCarty, aged 76, who died at his home Monday night were held at the Anderson chapel yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Gabriel Sykes officiating. Mr. McCarty, whose death resulted from a stroke of paralysis, was a native of Illinois. He moved here in 1917 from Vancouver, Wash., where he had resided for 12 years. The body will be shipped to Mason City, Ill., for interment.
Mr. McCarty is survived by his widow and the following four sons: William E. and F. O. McCarty, of Portland; Geo. T. McCarty, Mason City, Ill., and James T. McCarty, of Moro. A daughter, Linnie McCarty, who resides here, also survives.
