Jonathan Pettit, (1752-1833), enlisted in Albany County, NY, as Ensign, 1775, under Captain Henry O. Hare and his brother, James, was Lieutenant. In 1832 he applied for a pension and it was allowed for six months' actual service as Ensign, NY Line. With the application was a quaint document dated 1784, giving him freedom of the city of Albany by the mayor, John Jacob Beekman. He served as Captain 1779 of Associated Exempts. He was born in Sharon, CT; died in Cazenovia, NY.

Jonathan Pettit (1752-1833) received a pension for service as Ensign and Captain in the NY troops under Colonel Willett. He was born in Sharon, CT; died in Cazenovia, NY. Married 1775 Agnes Riddell.

The 1st land he bought was owned by General Phillip Schylver, and lived in Sarotaga, New York later changed to Schylerville, NY.

Grand Father - John Riddell Pettit - He was born 23 July 1792 in Burlington, Otsego County, New York. died 13 November 1855 in Winterset, Iowa. Buried Where???????? HELP

Named after a Great uncle - who was Melancton Smith Pettit - Owned 2 paper companies in Eastern Ohio- Who was named after a policatian name Melancton Smith - who served in the Contenial Congress with his uncle Charles Pettit.

To the Right is a old plot map of Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln Missouri just north east of Rackett, Missouri. The director of the cemeteries in Lincoln Mr. Moore found out that they spelled Great Grandpa Pettit's name incorrect on the hand written map. They had just Petts. Currect there is no tombstone but Mr. Moore oked one to be put there in a letter to me in 2004.
