Irene S. McCarron, 91, of Conway, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. She was born September 10, 1917, in Bunker Hill, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Cyrus Robb and Elsie (Tompkins) Shanks, and widow of Robert F. McCarron, D.D.S.

Irene earned her Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Missouri and her Master of Science in Education at Henderson State University. She worked as a social worker for the American Red Cross during World War II; as a department assistant for Chicago and Southern Airlines; and in an administrative capacity at Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. Irene was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Arkansas Educational Association, and Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ Church.

She is survived by her son, Robert F. McCarron II, M.D., and wife Vicki of Conway; her daughter Patricia Ann McCarron, M.D., of Greenville, North Carolina; granddaughters Elizabeth Knipscheer and husband Paul of Maumelle, and Jennifer McCarron of Little Rock; and sister Kathleen Bennett of Santa Maria, California.

Visitation is Friday, October 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
