Pioneer Woman Is Dead

Mrs. Martha J. Bragg, This City Died Yesterday Following Brief Illness.

Mrs. Martha J. Bragg, died yesterday at 5:30 p.m., at her home 408 South Second street after an illness of only a few days.

Martha Jane Compton was born at South Salem, Ohio, October 12th, 1837, and was 85 years, 7 months and 27 days of age at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to James Bragg July 19th, 1855, coming to Kansas in the fall of 1871, at which time they purchased a claim in Rutland township this county where they made their home until the death of her husband which occurred November 24, 1905. Since that time she has made her home in this city. Mrs. Bragg was a devout Christian woman.

For many years she was superintendent of the Sunday School conducted at Rutland Center school house.

She is survived by one son, W.W. Bragg, Edwards, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. J.C. Brentgartner, Sandusky, O., and Mrs. Phillip Gephart, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Amanda Woods of Iowa.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
