Bus Driver employed by Peninsula Bus Lines, later a retiree of Palo Alto High School. A wonderful article from 1953 was published about him I'll have to find and enter transcription.
A son born, third child, to Louie & Grace (Palmer) Blote in Estelline City, South Dakota, pop. approx 600 (1900). He had two older sisters, Iva M. (Young) and Alice Grace (Fricke) and one younger sister named, Harriat Lucille (Cox).
He was often teased at school being called "Butch" as his Father was the owner/operator of Blote's Meat Market store in the early 1900's and the whole town knew when it was Wednesday and he was cooking his famous 'ring bologna'. He kept samples on the counter for the kids but it was all sold out by noon, I heard.
I'm not sure exactly how Gramma and Grampa met, probably through church and married Oct 17, 1927 in Brookings.
Two sons were born to this marriage, Erwin DeVere Blote (aka: Jr) although known as DeVere until adulthood called "Skip" and my Father, Palmer Louis Blote in 1932. Within a few years they were leaving SD to head West into California.
There is much more to this story that is yet to be written. Please visit often. They are both missed especially by the grandchildren who are now themselves becoming grandparents.
