Shirley R. Johnsen died on November 20, 2008 at the age of 80 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She resided at 2401 East Ellison Woods Avenue (6475 South) in Cottonwood Heights, Utah at the time of her death.


She was born September 10, 1928 in Denver, Colorado to Robert Addison and Gladys Evelyn Phillips Richey. She was a graduate of East High School and attended the University of Utah. Married Ervin M. Johnsen in January 1949 they had two wonderful sons, Allen and David.


Shirley worked for Sperry/Univac for thirty years as a Supervisor and Quality of Work Life Facilitator. She received several Employee Excellent Awards, as well as a Governor's Award. She was also a Licensed Realtor in the State of Utah.


Shirley was appointed to the Governor's Commission for the Status of Women and Families, was a member of Salt Lake City, Business and Professional Women; Past President, Woman of the Year Award. Past Utah State President of Business and Professional Women's Organization, Trustee, Business and Professional Women's Foundation; Delegate to Utah Women's State Legislative Council and Delegate to the Salt Council of Women.


Member of the Utah State Women's Lobby, recipient of Advocacy Award. Radio Reader for the Library for the Blind. Her community service included Utah State Mental Health Board, Junior Achievement, Arthritis Foundation, Lung Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Special Olympics, Utah Youth Village and Shirley was also an accomplished Pianist.


Shirley is survived by her sons; three sisters and two brothers; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Ervin.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 12:00 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive with a visitation one hour to services.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
