Source: The Heritage of Cleveland Co., NC Vol. #1, 1982, article 617,p 319. Joseph Hopper Came to this country from Ireland and bought land in 1807 in York Co., SC. Joseph reared 3 sons: Charles, William & Jonathan. William settled about two miles up river from his father's place and where the state line crosses Broad River. He had four boys - Alexander, Joab, Zachariah, and Haskle. Girls were Rachael, Dulcinea, Polly Anna, and others.
